Unemployment in the North East has fallen by 19,000, official figures have revealed.
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), 99,000 people were unemployed in the region between November and January.
The unemployment rate now stands at 7.7%, but the region still has the highest unemployment rate in the country.
At the bottom end of the market, a proliferation of part-time and zero-hours contracts have left job insecurity increasingly the new norm for the lowest paid. At the top end high level positions are also on the increase, whilst jobs are fast disappearing at mid-level.
Young people have been particularly disadvantaged lacking skills and experience, they are twice as likely as older people to be in part-time or zero-hours work.
