Top marks for apprenticeships

With GCSE results due out this week, and warnings that recent reforms could lead to a dip in some grades, I would like to focus on the positives and offer hope and reassurance to the young people as they receive their results and contemplate their future.

It is important that we in the world of business create good opportunities for young people, and here at the BIC we are dedicated to supporting the next generation. Not only do they need to be motivated by their education but also made aware of the options available to them including apprenticeships and vocational qualifications.

In 2011, the BIC teamed up with Milltech Training, to provide work placements for their trainees. Since then more than 10 apprentices have been placed at the BIC with some 80% going on to gain full-time employment either within the BIC or with one of our tenants on site, once they have completed their qualification.

Most recently we have recruited an apprentice to work within our main reception and BIC services team. Charlotte Henderson joined us at the beginning of August and will gain valuable work experience with us whilst she completes her level two apprenticeship in business and administration. Like many others, Charlotte prefers to learn on the job so felt an apprenticeship scheme with Milltech was the best option for her.

We are delighted to welcome Charlotte to the team and will encourage and support her throughout her qualification. She will play a vital role in greeting visitors to the BIC and dealing with all reception enquiries. As Charlotte will be collecting her GCSE results this week, we wish her and everyone else receiving their results the very best of luck.
