A tree surgeon has become his own boss after visiting the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC).
Jack Murray, 19, visited the BIC for start-up advice, here he met with business adviser Ron Anderson who gave him independent business advice and support.
The help and advice received from the BIC enabled Jack to secure a start-up loan and the New Enterprise Allowance (NEA) and in February Blackthorn Tree Services launched, Jack said:
“I love being outdoors, once I had completed studies in arboriculture and forestry I decided I wanted to work for myself.”
The business offers pruning hedges and shrubs, selling logs and the care and removal of trees. Jack continues:
“Since starting the business it’s been a lot busier than I thought it would be and the response has been fantastic. I get to choose when and how I work, the freedom that comes with being self-employed is what I enjoy the most.
“My short term goals are to continue to build the brand name and reputation. Future aims are to move the business into commercial premises and take on staff.
“Ron helped me every step of the way. From setting up the required legal documentation as well as advising on the business plan.
“I would recommend the BIC to anyone thinking about starting their own business. The help and advice I have received has been invaluable.”
