Kalma Baby launches in Newcastle with the help of the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC).
Nadia Smith of East Boldon hosts a variety of classes at the Newcastle branch, aiding the development of babies and young children through the practice of baby yoga and other holistic therapies. Nadia explains:
“Kalma Baby is an existing brand, and as a mother of three, with experience in reflexology and aromatherapy and a need to find employment, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for me. So when the franchise for the Newcastle area became available I took the opportunity to go self-employed.
“Being a part of a franchise is brilliant. I can fit it around my own children and have had a lot of support and training from the Kalma Baby team.”
Nadia continues:
“There are so many benefits to baby and toddler yoga, for both the child and the parents. The social interaction is so important as well as the benefits to the child’s development.”
Nadia approached the BIC who’s start-up programme is part funded through the European Regional Development Fund, and was assigned Margaret Cook as her business adviser. Nadia adds:
“It was brilliant to have the advice and support from Margaret. She has been so helpful in guiding me through the steps of self-employment and she also put me in touch with some great contacts.
“Starting your own business and purchasing a franchise can be very daunting as with anything you’re taking a massive risk. However I felt I had nothing to lose. I had to try it and I love it. There is support out there and you have to take it.”
