The latest additions to Sunderland’s growing restaurant scene have signed up to be part of the city’s second Restaurant Week.
In recent months Sunderland has seen a massive influx of new restaurants, representing cuisines from around the world.
And many of them will now be joining long-established favourites to offer a range of discounts for the event, which is organised by Sunderland Business Improvement District.
From 11 – 19 March diners from across the region will be able to use downloadable vouchers to eat at a discount at a whole host of restaurants, cafes and bars.
And that includes deals to eat at the city’s newest batch of eateries which includes American-style bar and diner, The Coffin Club, Papa’s Tapas, The Dead Rabbit, Royal Thai, The Chop House at The Dun Cow and Turkish restaurant, Grand Didyma.
They will be joining long-standing city centre restaurants such as Asiana Fusion, Barnett’s and Angelo’s Ristorante which are also getting behind the event for the second time.
Organised by the city’s Business Improvement District, with the backing of Sunderland Business Partnership, the second event follows last year’s inaugural September launch.
And the success of that week – which saw some venues increasing footfall by up to 40 per cent and brought in an estimated £250,000 boost to the local economy – has led to the organising of the spring initiative.
Gemma Dishman, Marketing and Communications Manager at Sunderland BID, said the BID is delighted to see such an eclectic range of eateries getting behind the event.
“Our first Restaurant Week was a huge success but with a strong mix of new city dining spots and well-loved favourites on board, we’re positive the next one will be even better.
“It’s a chance for businesses to not only encourage the people of the city to visit new restaurants and return to old favourites but to also draw in food fans from further afield and showcase what Sunderland has to offer.”
The first week saw people travelling from Northumberland, Teesside and Durham to Sunderland to experience restaurants across the city.
